Understanding Life As A Christian

written by: LaShawn Batiste

Many times people in society forget what life is suppose to offer us. Is life offering us something? What are we getting out of it? Life can only give you what God desires for you. I grew up as a Christian studying his word and attending church 3-4 days a week. It was never a issue with me, but I’ve noticed that most children that attend church may more may not be a Christian. A Christian is not someone who just believes, but they must confess with their mouth and believe in their heart the God the maker and believe that Jesus Christ died for their sins and rose three days later. But, what happens after you have accepted Christ. How can you learn to understand life, the changes, the different environment you must surround yourself with. God has given me this to tell you. There are 5 keys to understanding life as a Christian. Here we go..

The first key to understanding life as a Christian is to Pray. Depriving ourselves from prayer is the same as depriving ourselves from God. The communication between you and God must be strong. Prayer is a way to praise God for his goodness, through good and bad times. Understand this, that sometimes we must step away and deprive ourselves the satisfaction of being around one person in order to get closer to God. I know, at times it may get hard, but do remember that we are not alone. God knows what’s best for us in all situations.
1 Corinthians 7:5 “Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.”

The second key to understanding life as a Christian is to study his word. The Bible is not just a book we carry to church every Sunday or read when were board or feeling lonely. It is the book of life. It tells the stories of great men and women that lived for the Lord. It tells us about Satan and shows us the games that he will try to play. It gives us scriptures that can help us through any situation. How can we understand being a Christian if we never get connected with the gospel of Jesus Christ? You say I don’t know where to start. I would encourage each of you to begin reading the Book of Job. That’s where I started and I can’t put it down. Also, pick up a study bible and some videos. Read, Study, Live by his word… then and only then can you understand life and your purpose.

The third key to understanding life as a Christian is through fellowship. In the bible, fellowship with others in Christ is a good thing. The gospel is not presented to us to keep for ourselves, but to spread it to others. Even Jesus, when he walked the earth spoke the gospel wherever to whomever would listen. Our purpose in life is to save the souls and make sure we give everyone the opportunity to learn the gospel and except it.

1 John 1:2-3 “The Life was  made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us… that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ”

The fourth key to understanding his word is to stay a true believer. How can we understand something if we do not believe? We must believe more with our heart instead of our minds. To understand we must want to believe. God gave his only son, not just anyone, his ONLY son to die for you and me. Jesus walked this earth like a regular man, but God had a different plan for you. God knew what his son would have to do for us. How many people do you know that would die for you? Not only did he die, but he died so we could have everlasting life. It’s a beautiful story, I’ve heard many say, but its more than a story, it’s the truth.

John 3:16 – “For God so Loved the World, He gave his only son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have every lasting life. “

Understanding life is just understanding Christ.  Christ is the son of God who paid the price for us. The least we can do is offer ourselves to him.
